Mission Statement
To improve the quality of life for all Moab residents by providing a wide variety of leisure activities, facilities, and services that encourage positive community involvement. To encourage fair play, honesty, teamwork, and sportsmanship in every endeavor, and to create community pride and unity.
It can safely be said that the Recreation Department is one of the busiest divisions of the City of Moab. When you consider that Moab experiences about 300 days of sunshine a year, it's easy to understand why recreation is important to local folks. The City of Moab has historically been a leader in providing recreation opportunities for children and adults. Sports programs include football, indoor and outdoor soccer, middle school basketball, Junior Jazz basketball, flag football, volleyball, tennis, baseball, T-ball, fast-pitch softball, slow pitch leagues, swimming, BMX bike racing, the Ski Bus and a youth all-City track meet.
The City-owned baseball fields are in the heart of old Moab surrounded by historic homes and structures dating back to 1902. The fields are always buzzing with activity whether it's the small fries running tackle in the fall, or CO-ED baseball teams hitting home runs in August. Clearly recreation is an important part of life in Moab.
The Recreation Department also coordinates community events such as the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Turkey Trot 3-mile Run, and softball and volleyball tournaments.
Employment Opportunities
The Recreation Department is a great opportunity for seasonal employment. There are positions for coaches, umpires, lifeguards, part-time instructors, and other arts and recreation related activities.
