Tara S. Penner of the Moab to Monument Valley Film Commission was hired by the City of Moab in cooperation with Grand County on February 20, 2008. Tara had previously worked as an interim film commissioner for Grand County, until the full-time position was created by the City of Moab.
Born and raised in Moab, Tara started her experience in the entertainment industry before she could walk. Campbell Film Service, a family run production company, was started the year Tara was born, and she has been heavily involved with it since. Playing the roles of lead character, extra, production assistant, and location manager, Tara realized at a fairly young age she would rather be behind the camera, rather than in front.
Tara’s credentials include: Paramount Pictures, LUCASFilms, Percy Main Productions, MGM, and a wide variety of commercial productions. Solely working out of Moab, she has taken part in large productions such as Thelma and Louise, Mission Impossible II, Larger Than Life and City Slickers II. At the age of twelve she starred in three commercials, two for Ford, and one for Toyota.
After leaving Moab for five years, four of which were earning her degrees in Marketing and Management, Tara discovered she wanted to move back to the place she grew up for the same reason production companies are drawn to the area – the vast beauty and open space.
With over 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry, Tara has seen the ongoing trends and the impacts productions have on the economy, as well as the community moral. She recognizes the need for the Moab area to focus its attention back in the entertainment industry. Recently, she has been working with local filmmakers, trying to encourage independent films to be shot using local crew and locations.
Born June 16, 1983, Tara is the fourth generation on both sides of her family to be born and raised in the area. She participates in City Recreational sports, is an avid hiker and rides ATV’s on the weekends.
