Moving from Sandy, Utah to canyon country in 1990, David has loved coordinating projects and working on various planning functions for the City of Moab. David graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and went on to receive a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Utah in 1987. David worked for Draper City, Sandy City and the Jordan School District before coming to Moab. David's hobbies include mountain biking, off-road motorcycle riding, coaching his 4 children and doing family activities.
David helped form the Grand County Trail Mix Committee and has served as the Trail Mix Vice-chair for over nine years. Trail Mix was established by the County to plan and develop more trails in the area. Representing the Utah League of Cities and Towns, David serves on the Utah Recreational Trails Advisory Council. One of David's outstanding achievements is the development of the Mill Creek Parkway project. Mill Creek, a natural riparian zone, runs from the La Sal Mountains through the heart of Moab. Through David's hard work and commitment to beautifying Moab, he received grants to build a pathway along the banks of this shady desert creek. Now over two miles long, the City has plans to expand and connect the Mill Creek Parkway to area trails and develop some additional trails along Pack Creek. Improvements and expansion of the project are made annually with the addition of more trails and bridges. This popular walkway attracts locals and tourists alike who stroll along the creek banks, roller blade, bicycle or jog through the cool riparian areas of town.
Some other projects David has been involved with include the development of Sun Court, Moonstone Gallery, the renovation of the Moab Arts and Recreation Center, Star Hall improvements, ballpark lights and fencing, Main Street decorative lights, art projects, park playground equipment, Rotary Park improvements and musical playground, Swanny Skate Park and pavilion, BMX track, Rockridge Apartments, City Center, FEMA Project Impact, NOAA weather radio, floodplain revision, Shafer Home restoration, 400 East and Center Street improvements, Tusher Canyon storm drainage, GIS, land acquisitions and tree planting projects. David gets help working closely with City staff, the Moab Governing Body citizens and others to improve the community.
David invites the public to contact the Moab Community Development Department to learn how they can get involved.
